A Big Room

This room served as an extension to our garage for many months. It's large squareness gave us a headache-- especially considering our initial lack of "furniture-n-things". I'm positive this room will evolve a lot as we try to tweak the traditional TV alter layout that seems to dominate so many living rooms. The green chairs and triangle side tables are from Father and Son Antiques in Raleigh. The coffee table was constructed from Ikea shelving and foot stools. The power line mural is an attempt at a Jill Crawford original. The asian looking lamp was a flea market find and the small throw pillows are covered in Japanese Kokka fabric.

Yardage

Springtime sure does dress up a house!  Check out the charming security warning sign tucked into the first photo, and my husband the mighty mower with wine glass in the last.  The shed you see is our ping pong stadium.

A place to cook... with table

This is the eating area of the kitchen where a cherry wood banquette with angled drawers has been added against a south facing wall. This will be a casual place for my husband and I to eat or work on messy projects. The powder coated steel table is from Ikea.

A place to cook... nearly complete!

Here you can see the Moroccan lanterns, above counter lighting, shelving, cabinet handles and outlets have been installed.  All that's needed is a plumber to sort out the garbage disposal and an extractor hood over the stove.

A place to cook... with photos

From bottom to top:
The narrow, dark galley kitchen as it was.
The wall between the dining room and the kitchen is removed along with the old cabinets and appliances.
The pocket door is removed.
The doorways are sealed with sheet rock.
The tile floor is replaced.
New outlets and lighting fixtures are installed and the walls are primed.
Cabinets and tile strip are installed.
Countertops and appliances are set in place and back splash is tiled.

A place to cook... with scenes

I'm thinking about remodeling our kitchen. As it is, the space is narrow and dark. Here is a sketch of the open kitchen we'd like to have one day. Talked to our friend Bobby Barrett of Barrett Construction and he's on board to lead the project!
