Retrofit

This is the my first piece for the raffle on opening day at Salvation Army Select.  It's a small MDF shelf unit that could be perfect in a reading nook.

Salvation... beautification... reincarnation!

Countless gently worn furniture pieces much like the one below (in the before image) have ended up in The Salvation Army's family stores.  Mmm.  Treasure.  Why not grant these items design salvation?  UNCG's retail design students could recycle and recreate original furniture pieces, which could then be used to raise interest, donations and sales at The Salvation Army's Select store.  Here's an outline of the steps required to make this happen:
-A small fund for materials will be required to purchase paint, glue and hardware.
-Clearance for involved students to pick up furniture at designated S.A. Family Stores free of charge would be helpful.
-Procurement of vacant window space at the S.A. Select Store's site will give the students the chance to showcase the renewed furniture while informing potential customers of upcoming raffle opportunities and the S.A. Select Store's unique mission.
-Posters and retail tags will be necessary for the window displays and furniture pieces.
-Raffle tickets and an organized raffle drawing will require management (tickets will be distributed to those who donate to the depot).
-Choice furniture pieces will feature in the store's displays.  These pieces will be for sale.

Like what you see?  This creative furniture project comes from Design Sponge.

The ol' key and chain

My retail design class has been asked to dream up some promotional products to help enlighten local donors and customers on the unique Salvation Army Select Store set to open soon.   This has been an opportunity for UNCG's interior architecture students to get involved on so many levels from design conception to community organizing and visual merchandising.  With this said, here's a few ideas i'd like to toss on the pile.
Know all of those loyal customer cards you keep collecting?  Well here's a better one.  Donations to the Salvation Army's Select Store will get you a loyal donor card, which will grant discounts and dress up that boring keychain.  Materials used include: Wood veneer samples (from The Scrap Exchange ), Modge Podge, paint and fabric.

These socks smell good

Another promotional tool could include these clever sock vases, given as gifts to donors or used as advertising space in appropriate venues. Imagine a few informational buttons pinned on to that argyle print. What a nice centerpiece that would be on a cafe table...
Materials used include: Old socks, broken pint glass/used can, fabric, needle & thread,

Pin ups

I'm hoping customized clothespins could be the bit of flare required to get the attention of suburbanites. The idea would be, that promotional flyers would be neatly folded and pinned to mailbox flags with these little pinching beauties.
